When I wrote my report on the Raask dragpipe, I hadn't yet removed the white spacer, or shim, from the carburetor. I was getting a lot of backfiring. Now that the spacer has been removed, the backfiring has been eliminated (except for one fart when I first hit the starter).
After a couple of hundred miles, I'm happy with the Raask pipe. The sound is great, despite the little rattle that I haven't located yet, and the pipe looks better than the SuperTrapp: not only is the dragpipe not discoloring, but its style seems to fit the Savage's better. Even with the spacer out of the carb, there's some loss of power in the midrange, but it's nothing I can't live with. Still, any suggestions on how to improve midrange power are welcome: I don't know whether to try richening or leaning out the mixture to address that. (Maybe I should leave well enough alone?)
